What can I do to prevent a child from getting involved?
Below are a number of ways in which you can prevent your child from becoming involved in prostitution:
- Communicate with your child on an ongoing basis.
- Know your child's friends; get names and phone numbers.
- Maintain contact with teachers regarding attitude or behaviour changes.
- Set expectations appropriate to your child's age and needs.
- Be supportive and involved in your child's life.
- Listen to your child; make your child feel valued and important.
- Know where to go for help and support.
- If you are concerned that your child is at risk, keep notes with names and descriptions of new friends, licence plates of cars, places they hang out, etc.
